Updated: 2023-08-24

The National Final of 2023 National Youth Space Innovation Competition was kicked off in Wenchang, Hainan recently, which drew over 60,000 students from 12,787 primary and secondary schools nationwide. During the Final, nearly 3,000 students from 25 competition zones and 30 provincial-level administrative regions swarmed to Hainan to compete in three units of aerospace creative design, space exploration, and aerospace scientific exploration and innovation, as well as nine special events themed the manned aerospace scene.

Six contestants from three teams of Gu Guohe Middle School in Beilun District, Ningbo, participated in the Competition on behalf of Ningbo Competition Zone and claimed two gold medals and one copper medal in the event of "Asteroid Mining" of the Space Exploration Competition after three days of febrile tussle and rounds of selections. Specifically, Zhang Yihe of Class 307 and Zhao Zihao of Class 208 won the National First Prize in Primary School Group I, Wang Zining of Class 710 and Li Zimo of Class 704 were awarded the National First Prize in Junior High School Group, and Hong Chi of Class 702 and Xia Zihan of Class 703 received the National Third Prize in Junior High School Group.

What behind their honors were their relentless efforts. These six teenagers, instructed by Xu Shengwei and Xue Xinyi, have geared up for the Competition against all odds since May to devote themselves into programming of automatic time interval and operation control of manual time interval, along with test on aerospace theory.

The National Final witnessed how the three teams stood out from other players in Ningbo Competition Zone thanks to their solid capabilities and unremitting practices, where they absorbed in a 3-month intensive training, dozens of programming, and tens of hours of debugging, and grew from knowing nothing to everything and from being rookies to techies. More commendably, two teams of players challenged rivals with their composure and then achieved amazing results with full marks in the practical part.
