Recently, the new variety planted by farmers at Xiapu Street, early-maturing fresh pea “Zhongqin No. 1”, were sold on the market. Due to sweet and glutinous taste, the peas were popular among citizens.

At 10:00 a.m., Ge Tida, Researcher of Agricultural Products from Ningbo University and staff of District Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs were checking the maturity of Zhongqin No. 1 in a farmland at Xiapu Street. It is understood that this new variety was planted in September and has entered the fresh pod picking period.

“The growth period of ‘Zhongqin No. 1’ Pea is about 60 days from the emergence of seedlings to the first picking.” Ge Tida said, “‘Zhongqin No.1’ Pea is superior to common pea seeds in cultivation time, yield, quality and disease resistance, stress resistance, lodging resistance, drought tolerance and other aspects. The growth period of local pea varieties is relatively long, about 4-6 months. While the growth period of ‘Zhongqin No.1’ is relatively short, the tendril is short, and no shelf is used. In half a year, three turnaround planting can be done, which greatly improves the marketing period and supply period of the pods.”

It is introduced that the fresh pod production of “Zhongqin No.1” is generally 1,500-2,000kg per mu. At present, the market price reaches about CNY 40 per kilogram, with considerable economic benefit. “Later, we will continue to observe the performance of this variety, breed well-behaved seeds, and promote its planting throughout the region.” Ge Tida said.
