Recently, in accordance with the Regulations of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the relevant project management measures of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the experts’ review opinions, the Natural Science Foundation of China decided at the 14th executive meeting in 2021 that the Youth Science Fund Project Research On the Mechanism of Environmental Carcinogen B[a]PDE Inducing Malignant Transformation of Bronchial Epithelial Cells By Inhibiting AKT2 Protein applied by Dr. Zhu Junlan of the Precision Medicine Center of Beilun District People's Hospital (Beilun Branch of the First Hospital of Zhejiang University) was approved, which achieved a zero breakthrough in the National Natural Science Foundation Project of Beilun District People's Hospital. And it is also the only county-level hospital in Ningbo that obtained the project.

It is understood that the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) project is an important measure of the Party and the State to promote the development strategy of science and technology innovation, and a comprehensive embodiment of the hospital discipline construction level and the strength of science and technology innovation, which has important practical role and is of great significance.

In recent years, Beilun District People's Hospital (Beilun Branch of the First Hospital of Zhejiang University) has always been focusing on the strategy of “revitalizing the hospital through science and technology” and taking “scientific research” as the breakthrough point. As a grass-roots hospital fully managed by the First Hospital of Zhejiang University, Beilun District People's hospital received professional guidance from the First Hospital of Zhejiang University in the application process of this National Natural Science Foundation project.  At the same time, the approval of the project also benefited from the close contact with Zhejiang University, making full use of the advantageous resources of Zhejiang University's scientific research platform.

The relevant person in charge of Beilun District People's Hospital said that the breakthrough of “zero” in the approval of the National Natural Science Foundation project not only reflects the effectiveness of the hospital in the introduction and training of young talents and the management of scientific research application, but also indicates that Beilun District People's hospital has the ability to undertake national high-level scientific research projects, which has played a positive role in further improving the level of discipline construction, talent training and scientific research. In the future, Beilun District People's hospital will make continuous efforts to do a good job in the application, management and service of National Natural Science Foundation project, forge ahead and strive to improve the innovation ability of basic research.
