Recently, the opening ceremony of the "12th Advanced Lacquer Painting Workshop", organized by the Lacquer Painting Art Committee of the China Artists Association, was held at Ningbo Vocational and Technical University. Artists, scholars, and students specializing in lacquer painting creation and theoretical research from across the country gathered to infuse new artistic vitality into Beilun's lacquer painting scene.
The workshop is co-hosted by Ningbo Vocational and Technical University, the Beilun Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the Beilun Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports, and the Zhejiang Contemporary Lacquer Art Culture Research Institute, with support from the university’s School of Architecture and Art, the Beilun Artists Association, and the Beilun Cultural Center.
Prior to the event, an "Online Draft Review Session" was held on July 20, marking the completion of the first phase. Six experts provided targeted guidance on over 100 draft works submitted by participants. The offline courses, launched on August 1, feature a highly experienced national faculty to ensure academic rigor.
Lacquer painting is a treasured traditional Chinese art form. In recent years, Beilun has positioned it as a signature cultural brand, establishing the Su Guowei (Lacquer Painting) Master Studio, the Zhejiang Artists Association Lacquer Painting Creation Base, and the China Artists Association Lacquer Painting Committee Beilun Creation Center to drive innovation and preservation.
Beyond professional development, Beilun has actively integrated lacquer art into community life. Public workshops—such as "lacquer fan" crafting—have been introduced to neighborhoods and businesses, allowing residents to experience this heritage craft firsthand.
The offline courses will run until August 25, featuring a lecture series on lacquer painting creation by renowned experts including: Prof. Chen Jinhua (Chair, Lacquer Painting Art Committee, China Artists Association); Prof. Cheng Xiangjun (Tsinghua University Academy of Fine Arts); Prof. Tang Zhiyi (Deputy Chair & Secretary-General, Lacquer Painting Art Committee). These sessions will share creative insights with participants and the public, showcasing the unique charm of lacquer painting.
