Supersize Oil Tankers Transport Product Oil to Start A New Race Track

On the morning of October 15, under the escort of Ningbo Maritime Safety Department, the supersize oil tanker, “ELIZA II (ELISA)” of VLCC of Panamanian nationality successfully completed the unloading task of 136,500 tons of fuel oil at the 300,000-ton berth of Ningbo Daxie Petro China Fuel Oil Wharf.

The fuel oil loading and unloading operation adopts the double-line operation mode of "tank entry+barge passing", and about 100,000 tons of fuel oil enters the storage through the pipeline. Meanwhile, the second-way oil tanker of the adjacent 50,000-tonnage information source wharf opens the pipeline to pass the barge and synchronously receives the fuel oil from the VLCC, by which not only the oil unloading efficiency can be improved, but also the stable supply of the subsequent product oil can be ensured. It is reported that there are about 20 such second-way oil tanker will participate in the transfer of the product oil, and the production raw materials shall be supplied continuously for Ningbo Keyuan Refining Chemical Co., Ltd., which is a unicorn enterprise in the rear Qingshi Industrial Zone.

VLCC is a "Big Mac" on the sea, which is used to transport crude oil traditionally, but affected by the international economic situation and geographical conflict, the crude oil prices remains high this year, and the downstream refineries go into operation insufficiently, resulting in a continuous low demand for crude oil transportation, the transportation price of  VLCC dropped sharply. In the face of this challenge, Beilun innovated actively, a new race track being used to transported the product oil by VLCC is opened successfully through the wharf, cargo owners, traders in cooperation.

"We have two wharfs of 300,000 tons and 50,000 tons, with the hardware foundation of pipeline barge passing. Meanwhile, with the support and adjustment of port supervision department and internal service system, the soft service capacity has been continuously improved". Said Liang Haitao, production manager of Ningbo Daxie Petro China Fuel Oil Terminal Co., Ltd. A new mode of "water-water transfer" tanker barge passing operation was launched successfully by the wharf finally.

The "water-water transfer" oil tanker barge passing operation is to transport oil products from one ship to another ship through pipelines, including the secondary barge passing from the shore tank and the direct barge passing from the outer ship. This mode reduces the unloading time of the outer ship, and the money and the time for customers can be saved, and the cost reduction, quality improvement and efficiency improvement of transportation logistics can also be realized.

"We have formulated the precise service measures of ‘one ship, one policy’, opened the green channels, and made use of intelligent information systems such as intelligent maritime and AIS to ensure the safe and fast operation of ships entering the port."
