At 10 o'clock in the morning on September 8, as a red silk-covered container was hoisted to the "COSCO Marine Aquarius" vessel, the container terminal in the Chuanshan port area of Ningbo Zhoushan Port has achieved a total container throughput of over 100 million TEUs over the years.

Since it was gradually put into production in 2004, the container terminal in the Chuanshan port area of Ningbo Zhoushan Port, giving full play to its natural advantages of being close to the waterway, good water depth conditions and long frontage, has continuously expanded market resources along the transportation line and improved hardware facilities in the port area. It has gradually developed into a container terminal with the largest number of shipping routes and the strongest container handling capacity in Ningbo Zhoushan port, which has made positive contributions to Ningbo Zhoushan Port to create the best integration point of the "One Belt One Road".

In recent years, the container throughput of the terminal in the Chuanshan port area has been promoted year by year through active measures such as expanding external services, optimizing production organization and strengthening internal management. They also deepen cooperation with large shipping companies such as Maersk, MSC and COSCO, timely follow-up customer’ needs, optimize port environment and improve services of the line so as to gradually improve customers’ satisfaction. Besides, they use the information system to monitor and analyze the transportation production in the port in real time and set up several efficiency-improvement teams to scientifically design the operation routes and equipment layout, reasonably allocate the yard resources, optimize the production process and continuously improve the production efficiency. The n-TOS system has been successfully launched, ending the history that China’s "ten million level" container terminals have to rely on foreign systems.

Since the beginning of this year, the container terminal in the Chuanshan port area has actively responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. In view of the increasing number of vessels inspected by the customs during the pandemic, the container terminal rationally allocated the berths and equipment resources, which has realized the effective utilization of production resources. At the same time, they tracked the business needs of shipping companies in real-time during the special period and took the initiative to undertake the reloading business of extra ships. Besides, they also tapped the potential of sites and equipment to further improve operational efficiency and reduce the waiting time of ships and costs of shipping companies. From January to August this year, the berthing efficiency of the mainline in the Chuanshan port area increased by 0.67% year-on-year and the average waiting time of the mainline ships decreased by 29.7% year-on-year. In July and August, the container terminal overcame the impact of the pandemic on the port transportation production, recovered the container throughput with the year-on-year growth of 2.08% and 3.56% respectively.(Correspondent: Chen Xurong Reporter: Chen Zhiming)
